FAQs
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD NEEDS SPEECH THERAPY?
Early signs may include difficulty being understood, limited vocabulary, or frustration when communicating. Older children may have a hard time expressing their thoughts and ideas clearly or difficulties with academics, especially reading and writing. If you’re concerned, a professional speech-language evaluation can help determine your child’s needs.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SPEECH-LANGUAGE EVALUATION?
Evaluations include child and parent interviews, observations, and standardized assessments to understand your child’s communication skills. Written language skills, including reading decoding, reading comprehension, and writing can also be evaluated. After the evaluation, you’ll receive a written report with results and recommendations.
I FOUND ANOTHER CLINIC THAT WILL EVALUATE MY CHILD AT A LOWER COST. WHAT MAKES YOUR EVALUATION WORTH THE INVESTMENT?
My evaluations are designed to be comprehensive, detailed, and individualized. I spend the time needed to thoroughly assess all areas of communication and dig deep to understand each client’s strengths, needs, and unique communication style. You’ll leave with clear understanding and practical next steps, not just scores on a report.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
My office is located in the Humanly building at 1123 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, GA 30030. I am also able to meet with clients via teletherapy (for clients anywhere in the state of Georgia) and at local schools. In addition, I provide limited in-home services in the 30030, 30033, 30317, and 30002 zip codes.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Services are private pay at this time. I want to focus on what’s best for my clients, without any restrictions from insurance companies. I can create a treatment plan tailored to my clients’ specific needs and provide the highest quality of care.
While I do not accept insurance directly, I understand that some clients may want to submit claims to their insurance companies for potential reimbursement. To make this process easier, I provide clients with a monthly superbill. Hathorn Therapy Services is considered an out-of-network provider.
Do Speech-langauge pathologists work on reading and writing?
Yes! Because reading and writing are closely tied to language, SLPs often support these areas. We work on skills like phonological awareness (sound awareness), vocabulary, sentence structure, and comprehension, which all support strong reading and writing development. I have experience working with clients with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and various language-based learning disabilities.
